Designing Negative Images with Photoshop for the manual t-shirt screen printing process.
Take a look at the picture below, is it cool? hmmm okay..hehe. The white image on the black material looks like a negative. The design uses Photoshop, if you want to know how, just follow these steps.
Design a negative image for screen printing on a black (dark) t-shirt I don't use a lot of sample images, so take a good look.
Open your image file Remember the image must be in black and white and the pixel resolution of the image if possible is a good one.
Then create a new File > New To make it easier to change the size type to "cm", why cm?, there are many sizes of print paper, namely A0 (84.1cm x 118.9cm), A1 (59.4cm x 84.1cm), A2 (42.0cm x 59.4cm), A3 (29.7cm x 42.0cm), A3+ (31.8cm x 48.0cm), A4 (21.0cm x 29.7cm), A5 (14.8cm x 21.0cm) and many more. Now you want to make an image on which paper size, adjust it to your choice, also adjust it to the printer.
It is recommended to use the services of an hvs or repro laser printer, because the print results are sharper
Back to your Photoshop
In the image file you see the LAYERS panel, namely the Background layer, pay attention to the key mark, so that it can be edited, click 2 times then ok, it will change to layer 0 and the key mark will disappear, now the image layer can be edited.
Select the Select menu > Color Range, a Color Range box will appear then change the Select to white (Hightlight)
Automatically the image will be selected only the white color, then delete it by pressing the Delete button on the keyboard
And now we will convert the image to Raster
Select the Image menu > Mode > Grayscale, when a message appears select discard
Select the Image menu > Mode > Bitmap, when a message appears ok, it's ok
Then a Bitmap box will appear, change the Output as you like, remember the bigger the output you fill, the smaller the raster points, mostly for screen printing, between 250 to 300 px/inch
In the Method select Halftonescreen then ok
Halftonescreen box will appear, fill in Frequancy 50 (influence of raster size), Angle 20 (slope of raster) and Shape ellipse (raster shape), click ok
Try to zoom, and pay attention to the raster dots
Now we will add 4 small squares in the corners of the image, you may ask Why do you have to use those small squares? Now I ask, If you do sweeping is it only 1 time? definitely 2/3 times to get a slightly thicker result. Did you use feeling during the 2nd and 3rd time sweeping? So here is the function of the 4 boxes.
The image has been converted into a raster, so that the raster image can be edited and added a small box, select Image > Mode > Grayscale, when the size ratio appears, enter 1, ok
Select the Select menu > Color Range, in the Color Range box, change the Select to white (Hightlight), click ok
Then press Delete on your keyboard, so that the white color disappears
Now we are going to widen the size of the drawing canvas, to make room for the 4 squares we want to create. Select the Image menu > Canvas Size
To make it easier to change the size to inches and then add 1 or 2 inches to the width and height
See the image below width 10,544 + 1 = 11,544 and height 13,781 + 1 = 14,781 means you have to fill in width 11,544 and height 14,781, click ok
Now drag the image to the document file with the paper size you created earlier, then adjust it.
Finished
And now you save then print it with HVS or Repro paper types and then process the screen printing.
Remember when printing, the ink color must be white, you can use rubber, super white, etc
